Media interest was high at the recent press conference arranged by the city of Knittelfeld to present a pilot nitrogen recovery facility. The facility, which was developed at the Montan University in Leoben, is part of the “ReNOx” project, and has just begun a one-year trial in this corner of northern Styria.
Christof Industries is playing an important role in this project, contributing its expertise as part of its program of research partnerships with external organizations. The aim of the trial is to establish whether the technology will work in real-world operations at a water purification plant, and thus, whether it can be used for industrial purposes. If the technology proves successful, it will be possible to retrofit it to existing communal waste water purification plants, industrial purification plants and even biogas plants, with significant benefits for the environment and for operators’ bottom lines. At the same time, it will be possible to produce a denitrification agent for use in the treatment of flue gas, for example at cement works.
