Power to Gas: Patented flexible Methanation Technology
Renewable energy from wind farms and solar power plants is an increasingly important component in modern energy mixes. There is, however, one significant obstacle on the path to large-scale implementation across the globe: the question of how to store excess electricity.
Christof Industries’ solution per se is not new: the conversion of electricity into gas. The greatest challenge is the variable rate of electricity input (e.g. excess electricity from wind farms), which is difficult to handle with traditional technologies. Christof Industries’ research team developed a methane-producing facility which operates perfectly with varying rates of electricity input.
Power to Gas
Advantages:
Energy storage (short-term, seasonal or long-term) of H2 and CH4
More efficient and higher use of wind power and solar energy – strengthening the competitiveness of renewable energies
Reduced expansion of power grid infrastructure by shifting energy transport to the gas grid
Reduction of the topographical interventions for power lines
