ESG (environmental, social, governance) is talked about a lot in the world of business, as companies are under increasing pressure from stakeholders to become more sustainable. At Christof Industries, we believe in thinking forward and acting ahead to protect the planet for future generations. We want to move beyond ESG and embed sustainability, which means truly integrating sustainability into the organisation. With this in mind, we didn’t want to keep sustainable actions only for our business but also wanted to bring the topic to the daily lives of our team members. As a first step, we recently kicked off our Sustainability Ambassador Programme.
The idea behind the programme is to work together as a community to create lasting change for a more sustainable future. Through communication and collective action, we are building an international community within the company to discuss and work on sustainable initiatives taking into consideration environmental, social, and economic factors, that will ensure a better future for the next generations. The bottom line is that within the company we have a clear vision:
To go beyond innovative ideas and achieve an entirely circular economy, where all industries are efficient, clean and zero waste.
In order to work towards this vision, at the beginning of the year, we started looking for volunteers from within the organisation to join the sustainability ambassador programme. Anyone within Christof Industries that has a passion for sustainability or wanted to get involved and learn more about this topic, could volunteer to join the programme.
Yesterday, our Sustainability Strategy & Implementation Manager, Lena Bernkopf, kicked off the programme in an online workshop. In the first part, the sustainability ambassadors had the chance to get to know each other and share their motivation for joining. It was very enriching to see people from different countries and cultures getting together for the common purpose of taking care of our planet. Once they had introduced themselves, the ambassadors learned about sustainability in a fun way, through a short sustainability quiz, in which everybody could take part and play.
During the session, Lena also introduced the programme’s purpose and scope:
- To build a community of people who want to have an impact and want to spread the word and engage others in doing so.
- To learn about sustainability through workshops that focus on different aspects of sustainability and what we can do as individuals and as a community to improve the wellbeing of our colleagues, our company and our planet.
- To come together to generate ideas for collective action in monthly brainstorming sessions.
- To implement our ideas and initiatives throughout the company that have a positive impact.
To get things rolling, we already have our first task. Together, we collected some ideas of what sustainable actions are. Now, it’s time to act – and it will start with the ambassadors, who will be showing their commitment by sending in photos of them in action and encouraging others to do so too.
The kickoff meeting was a success, and we are looking forward to bringing positive change to the organisation and to future generations.
